AHA notes entering the weekend

We’re entering the second week of conference play for AHA teams. And this week features some games that should be fun to watch, including the only two AHA teams that have yet to lose a game in conference play.

When Robert Morris travels to Mercyhurst on Friday it’ll be a battle of the special teams. The Colonials have the best penalty kill in the nation, clicking along at 95 percent. The Lakers have the second best power play in the conference, seventh in the nation, at 26 percent.

Canisius and Niagara will meet for the first time on Tuesday. The rivalry will be different this year as the two teams have swapped spots in the standings from past years. Canisius is currently third in the standings while Niagara is ninth.  The two schools do not like each other. It all makes for an entertaining game.

Air Force travels to RIT and Mercyhurst this weekend. The Falcons and RIT have been battling each other for AHA supremacy for the last couple years. But this year RIT has gotten off to a slow start but Shane Madolora is expected to make his return to the lineup on Friday. Even without Madolora coming back, Air Force and RIT always makes for a fun game.

The Falcons matchup with Mercyhurst on Saturday puts the top two teams in the standings against each other. The Falcons and Lakers are also the only AHA teams that haven’t lost in conference play yet.
