Atlantic Hockey Wrap 2/11

Posted by: Timothy O'Donnell

Only three series were completed this weekend as snow caused games throughout the Northeast to be postponed. The rest of the games are being played today and tomorrow. And with just three weeks left, every team knows exactly what they need to do. The games to be played include Bentley at UConn (Monday), Sacred Heart at Holy Cross (Tuesday), and Holy Cross at Sacred Heart (Feb. 19). Army at AIC still has no makeup date announced.

Niagara clinched a first round bye in the playoffs this weekend. The Purple Eagles did suffer their second league loss of the season though. But it was only a speed bump. The Purple Eagles need just three points in their last six games to clinch the regular season title. If things go their way, the Purple Eagles could clinch next weekend.

The Golden Griffins win temporarily bumped them to fourth in the standings. All but two teams below the Golden Griffins still have games to play. Golden Griffins won’t be in fourth by the end of the week.

With so many games being postponed there has been very little change in the standings. Robert Morris and RIT entered their matchup separated by one point. They split the two games. Air Force took three points at Mercyhurst but still trail the Lakers by one point.

The remaining games this week will impact the standings greatly. A win by either Bentley or UConn will leapfrog them over RIT and Robert Morris. A UConn win puts them into a tie for fourth and a Bentley win moves them to fifth. A win for Holy Cross and they are in fourth place by themselves.
