BREAKING NEWS: Islanders Attack
Posted by: adamwAfter Shea Guthrie’s spectacular goal against St. Cloud State to give the Clarkson Golden Knights their first NCAA win in 12 years, New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow decided to sign Guthrie in the middle of the NCAA tournament. Guthrie was a third-round pick of the Islanders in 2005. Snow decided to leave Clarkson defenseman Tyrell Mason in school, pending his team’s performance in Saturday’s regional final. “If we want to bring him out today, we’ll bring him out today. If we don’t, we won’t,” Snow said. “George Roll will live with it. He’s no Shawn Walsh anyway.”

Is this a joke? It seems like a caricature of the already insane behavior he exhibited around Okposo’s signing. For a former college player, he’s certainly showing a lack of tact when dealing with the college game.

Well, Guthrie hasn’t left Potsdam yet … 🙂

I don’t know what is up with Mr. Snow but I am sure he doesn’t know George very well. He is a class person that is loved by his team & the fans at Clarkson. What a joke to talk about George the way he did.

Perhaps we should all check the humor meter.

Maybe you should check your stupidity meter reporting someone is signed and making up quotes.

Guess no one ever read The Onion….

This falls under the heading of a tasteless joke. I imagine that none of the parties in the “story” are amused.

I’ll take that bet, Stemmer … my guess is George Roll is pretty well versed on the Kyle Okposo situation and took this post for the sarcastic, snark-filled knock on Garth Snow that it was. I’m sorry everyone else didn’t get it. …
You know what they say about humor though – if you have to explain it, it ain’t funny anymore. … Then again, you know what they also say … maybe it wasn’t funny in the first place.
Maybe y’all can read my “real” Clarkson piece and can feel better…. Peace.

Adamw,
For my money, you’re not allowed to make a “joke”/sarcasm such as this, outside of April Fool’s Day, and remain a credible reporter and interesting college hockey web site.
A lot of people were tricked into discussing and making judgments on events that didn’t happen.
Bad decision. I think an apology or explanation to ignorant, humorless people such as myself might be worthwhile.

OK wts … I do apologize. I thought everyone would get the joke, and obviously not. My bad. The explanation is very simple … I noticed that Guthrie was an Islanders pick, and figured I would take a crack at Garth Snow. The people around me at the time got the joke, so it seemed like harmless sarcasm at Garth Snow’s expense. … I didn’t for the life of me think that anyone would really believe it. The headline and Snow’s “quote” were so over the top, I thought I was making it obvious. Obviously, I was wrong. 🙂 … C’mon it wasn’t just a little funny?

What?! You people should get a life. It was a harmless little joke. If you couldn’t tell it was made up you’re a moron. After all the Okposo hype I liked it, Garth was way out of line in his comments against Lucia.

Adam,
It’s not that some of us didn’t “get the joke” or understand your poke at Garth Snow. I’m sure most of us did.
But whatever the situation with regard to that, I personally didn’t see any humor in your made-up comments attributed to Snow nor the dig at Roll.
As a part-time sports journalist myself, I’d call it “tasteless jpurnalism.”
Thanks for the “real Clarkson story.” I had actually read it already and found it far more enlightening than the April Fool’s joke.
JM-Minny: Disliking the comments in no way indicates that anyone needs to “get a life.” I’m comfortable saying that a) I have a very good sense of humor and that b) I don’t care for such tasteless stuff that is supposed to pass for “humor.”

Maybe Lucia should have kept his big mouth shut in the first place and not taken a shot at the Isles which forced Snow to respond about his program, instead he did not respect Okposo’s decision or even wish him luck. Funny Lucia tried to make it about Chris Simon’s suspension back in December but now the same Minnesota writers on Lucia’s bandwagon started doing backflips to protect Simon when he was traded to the Wild.
Lucia simply did not have any class at all and was terrible to Okposo, playing him out of position which did hurt him.
Lucia pulled this same garbage with Calgary because he is all about his job status and his big ego. He’s not in it for these kids one bit.
Snow has the greatest respect for the college system as a player who graduated himself, he has no record of this in his brief career as a gm.
As for the writer here it was not 4/1 and it was not funny or professional, it makes you and your work look third rate and never to be taken seriously from here on because you cannot be trusted.
