Details on Hockey East’s Deal with American Sports Network
Posted by: Mike McMahonBOSTON — Hockey East officially announced its agreement with American Sports Network to produce its league television slate. It’s a two-year contract and will consist of 14 games for this upcoming season.
ASN is a production company, and will produce the games for its series of networks. Locally, it’s likely that games will continue to air on NESN, though that portion of the deal was not formally announced by the league on Monday.
“Hockey East is excited about joining with the American Sports Network to bring the best of college hockey to fans across the country,” said Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna. “This innovative package marks a major step for our sport in how we promote our game. We look forward to a long relationship with ASN.”
Hockey East broadcasts will be part of a series of Friday night double-headers, with most eastern games starting at 6 p.m., paired with a later start for a game in the midwest. The deal also includes one men’s playoff game and the Women’s Hockey East Championship Game, which will take place at Merrimack College this March.
NESN will produce and air the Beanpot as well as the Men’s Hockey East Championship.
“We’re pleased to enter into this relationship to provide Hockey East events to our viewers,” said Doron Gorshein, COO of Sinclair Networks Group. “ASN will be airing as many as 30 games this season from five of the premier NCAA Division I men’s hockey conferences and Hockey East has proven itself to be one of the best, based on last year’s Frozen Four performances. This relationship further extends our commitment to serve communities by providing relevant live programming to Hockey East students, alumni, and fans.”
