Things are getting interesting in Atlantic Hockey. Air Force and Mercyhurst are still at the top of the standings while RIT continues to climb. A weekend sweep has propelled Canisius up to third. And Sacred Heart finally gets a win, against Yale.

Air Force –  Following a winless weekend that knocked them out of first, the Falcons used their week off to their advantage. The Falcons swept UConn and are now back in first. The Falcons went 4 for 12 on the power play, three of those goals coming on Saturday. Tim Kirby scored three goals and added an assist on the weekend. Kyle De Laurell also scored twice, giving him eight on the year to lead the team.

AIC – The Yellow Jackets couldn’t carry the momentum from beating Brown into the weekend. The Yellow Jackets were swept in Buffalo by Canisius. Both games ended 2-1 in favor of Canisius. Both of the Yellow Jackets goals came on the power play. Nielsson Arcibal assisted on both of the goals. It’s the first time this season that Arcibal has recorded points in consecutive games.

Army – The Black Knights again played very close games but couldn’t come out on top. The Black Knights lost and tied Robert Morris on the weekend. The Black Knights outshot the Colonials in both games. They poured 50 shots on net on Saturday. Andy Starczewski picked up two assists over the weekend, to add to his team leading nine points.

Bentley – The Falcons had the weekend off and will host Niagara this weekend.

Canisius – Coach Dave Smith and his young Golden Griffins sit in third place after a sweep of AIC. The Golden Griffins were outshot in both games but the goaltending tandem of Toby Capobianco and Dan Morrison didn’t back down. They gave up just two goals in the two games. Ben Danford scored his first goal of the season on Saturday, which proved to be the game winner. Kyle Gibbons also scored for the Golden Griffins. He leads the team with nine points.

UConn – The Huskies traveled to Air Force and were swept. The Huskies power play went 1 for 10 on weekend, with Sean Ambrosie netting the only power play goal. Alex Gerke’s goal tied him with Tim Kriby of Air Force for the most points from a defenseman in Atlantic Hcokey. Both Gerke and Kirby have 11 points. Gerke has already tied his career high in goals (4), assists (7), and points (11).

Holy Cross – The Crusaders went 1-1 against ECAC foes Brown and Clarkson. The Crusaders shut out Brown on Friday before being shut out by Clarkson. Eric Vos had a goal and an assist against Brown. Jeffrey Reppucci also scored his first goal of the season. Andrew Cox’s assist tied him with Adam Schmidt for the team lead with nine points.

Mercyhurst – The Lakers are on their first losing streak since losing four straight in early October. The Lakers lost both games against Wisconsin over the weekend and fell back to second place behind Air Force. The Lakers scored just four goals on the weekend while surrendering 12. Derek Elliott had two goals and an assist, while Daniel Bahntge had assist for the Lakers. Elliott and Bahntge lead the Lakers with 10 points a piece.

Niagara – The Purple Eagles jumped out to early leads in both games against Sacred Heart and both times had to hold off the Pioneers come back attempts. It only worked once as the Purple Eagles won and tied against Sacred Heart. C.J. Chartrain and Robert Martini both scored their first goals of the season over the weekend. Marc Zanette scored twice to bring him into a tie for the team lead with four goals.  Isaac Kohls had a goal and an assist for his first multi-point game of his career.

Robert Morris – The Colonials are on a three game undefeated streak with their win and tie against Army. Cody Crichton scored twice on the weekend and is now on a three game goal scoring streak. Cody Wydo added a goal and two assists. He is also on a three game point streak. Nick Chiavetta is also on a three game point streak. He has three goals and three assists over that span.

RIT – The Tigers played once this weekend, and were shut out by RPI. Shane Madolora lost for the first time since returning to the lineup. The Tigers allowed RPI to score twice on the power play, the difference in the game.

Sacred Heart – The Pioneers were coming off a huge win over Yale but couldn’t keep the momentum going as they had another winless weekend. But it was the first weekend they didn’t get swept. Their tie with Niagara on Saturday was the first of the year. Matt Gingera scored three times over the weekend while Ben Ketchum added two goals for the Pioneers. Gingera leads the team with seven goals and 12 points.
