Unlike last weekend, AHA teams were on the right side of some games this weekend. RIT came up big against St. Lawrence, winning 6-5 in overtime, while Air Force, Holy Cross, and UConn all won their first conference games of the year. But the rest of the AHA didn’t do as well. Canisius was outplayed and demolished by Quinnipiac, while Sacred Heart was swept by Clarkson.

RIT’s win over St. Lawrence highlighted the weekend. The Tigers tied the game with nine seconds left and won it just 14 seconds into overtime. The Tigers look to be one of the top teams in the league this year.

Air Force got a jump start on conference play, sweeping the weekend against Niagara and Robert Morris. Even without goalie Jason Torf, the Falcons managed squeak out two victories.

Holy Cross needed a third period goal from Shayne Stockton to get the victory over AIC. The Crusaders best player, Shayne Stockton, came through when the Crusaders needed him, scoring the game-winning goal midway through the third period.

UConn was outshot by Army, but the Huskies still won 5-0. Cole Schneider scored twice and added and assist as he looks to carry over his success from last season.

While those teams were having success, the rest of the AHA was struggling. Quinnipac demolished Canisius, outscoring the Golden Griffins 11-1. But the Golden Griffins did have some positive signs. Sophomore Tony Capobianco stopped 40 shots and made some fantastic saves in the second game. But with 12 freshmen, the Golden Griffins are going to struggle for this season.

Sacred Heart continues its struggles from last season. They were swept by Clarkson and surrendered three goals in the first period of each game.

Army, after losing to UConn, traveled to Merrimack. While Merrimack earned the victory, the Black Knights were able to stay with their Hockey East opponents until the end.

Robert Morris and AIC both played just once this weekend, and both lost. The Colonials fell to Air Force, despite 31 saves from Brooks Ostergard. The Yellow Jackets played well against Holy Cross. Ben Meisner stopped 36 shots for the Yellow Jackets, but the Crusaders were able to get two shots past him for the win.

Bentley plays Quinnipiac on Tuesday. We’ll see if they can get any better results than Canisius against the Bobcats.
