Atlantic Hockey Power Rankings

1. Air Force – The Falcons continue to roll. A sweep of AIC this weekend gives the Falcons four straight wins. They outscored AIC 15-6 on the weekend. Kyle De Laurell continues to have a career year. He has already set a career high with 11 goals. His 21 points lead Atlantic Hockey. He is on a six game point streak in which he has accumulated 12 points, including six goals. The Falcons don’t play again until Dec. 30 and 31.

2. Mercyhurst – After a winless weekend, the Lakers got back to winning with a win and tie against Army. Chirs Bodo continues to impress in his freshman year. He had three points on the weekend, including two goals. He now has recorded at least one point in seven of the Lakers last 10 games. The Lakers travel to upstate New York to take on Canisius and Niagara. (more…)

1.Air Force – The Falcons continue to ride Stephen Caple with a weekend sweep of UConn. The Falcons average just under three goals a game to lead Atlantic Hockey. The Falcons also give up the least amount of goals in Atlantic Hockey. Both point to continued success this season. Cole Gunner leads all Atlantic Hockey freshmen 14 points while classmate is tied for the freshmen lead with five goals.

2. Mercyhurst – The Lakers had lost once in the last eight games before being swept by Wisconsin. Wisconsin out scored the Lakers 12-4 in the two games. It’s the most goals the Lakers have given up in back-to-back games this year. Daniel Bahntage continues to impress in his freshman year. He is tied with Derek Elliott for the team lead with 10 points. (more…)

Atlantic Hockey Wrap Up

Things are getting interesting in Atlantic Hockey. Air Force and Mercyhurst are still at the top of the standings while RIT continues to climb. A weekend sweep has propelled Canisius up to third. And Sacred Heart finally gets a win, against Yale.

Air Force –  Following a winless weekend that knocked them out of first, the Falcons used their week off to their advantage. The Falcons swept UConn and are now back in first. The Falcons went 4 for 12 on the power play, three of those goals coming on Saturday. Tim Kirby scored three goals and added an assist on the weekend. Kyle De Laurell also scored twice, giving him eight on the year to lead the team. (more…)

Atlantic Hockey Power Rankings

1. Mercyhurst – The Lakers are 6-1-1 in their last eight games and it all starts in net. Senior Max Strang is having a career year in is first year as the starter. Strang has a .930 save percentage on the season and a 2.65 goals against average. Neither number leads the conference but they are good enough to have the Lakers sitting in first place. But during the Lakers eight game run, Strang has been even better. He has 1.87 goals against average during that time. Strang and the Lakers will be put the test this weekend as they travel to Wisconsin.

2. Air Force – The Falcons had the weekend off. The last time the Falcons played, they went winless, losing at RIT and Merycyhurst. The Falcons have the players to stop the losing streak and win this weekend. Kyle De Laurell and Cole Gunner are tied for second in Atlantic Hockey with 12 points. Stephen Caple also leads Atlantic Hockey with a 1.97 goals against average in his first year as the starter. (more…)

With another weekend done, there are two constants: Mercyhurst continues to roll and Sacred Heart is winless. RIT has also climbed back into the mix after a slow start and the return of Shane Madolora. Things are starting to take shape as the midpoint of the season inches closer. (more…)

Atlantic Hockey Power Rankings

Another weekend is done and life in Atlantic Hockey got a little more blurry. Air Force and Mercyhurst, both previously unbeaten in league play, lost over weekend. The weekend also marked the return of Shane Madolora to net for RIT. But the end of the weekend also brought several surprises. Bentley sits in second place behind Air Force in the standings. While it may just be a strong start, these Falcons may be real. While we’re only two weekends into conference play, its easy to see that this is going to be a fun rest of the season.

AHA Wrap Up

Another weekend in the AHA is done and while its still early in the season, things are already muddled. The last two undefeated teams in conference play lost this weekend and the league appears to have more parity than past years. With surprise teams Bentley and Mercyhurst near the top of the standings, and teams like RIT and UConn struggling to start the season, the league is set for a fun season. The fun really began this past weekend.

AHA notes entering the weekend

We’re entering the second week of conference play for AHA teams. And this week features some games that should be fun to watch, including the only two AHA teams that have yet to lose a game in conference play.

When Robert Morris travels to Mercyhurst on Friday it’ll be a battle of the special teams. The Colonials have the best penalty kill in the nation, clicking along at 95 percent. The Lakers have the second best power play in the conference, seventh in the nation, at 26 percent. (more…)

Well the first weekend of conference play has come and gone, and some things have become clear. Some teams continue to have success (Air Force), some teams are surprisingly struggling (RIT), and yet others just can’t get a win. AHA teams are all over the map in the early going this season, with many teams not separating from the pack yet. (more…)

This weekend was the last weekend of nonconference play for the AHA. All teams start their conference schedules this upcoming week. After this weekend, some teams are in better shape than others. UConn and Holy Cross highlighted this past week’s game, with UConn pulling out the win.
